Camera trap captures incredible daytime leopard footage
27 February 2026Unknown, Unknown Property
At the beginning of January 2026, a wildfire swept through Bonniebrook, a member of the Walker Bay Fynbos Conservancy. Almost a month later, a leopard was captured on a camera trap — a thrilling sign that top predators are moving through the recovering landscape. The same camera had previously recorded a rich array of wildlife, including bushbuck, grysbok, porcupine, honey badger, striped polecat, baboons and leopard. This record demonstrates how quickly wildlife adapts and navigates a regenerating habitat. It is a striking reminder of the resilience of the Overberg ecosystem, and why the conservation of properties like Bonniebrook are essential for biodiversity protection.
